Guitar Level 1

Students with little or no guitar experience can learn the fundamentals of finger positioning, chords, strumming, picking, and more in this fun group guitar class! This is considered an adult level class, but teen students are welcome as long as they can participate at an adult level.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Six-string acoustic guitar (or electric with small portable amp), notebook, pencil, recording device (such as a smart phone)

First class: February 3, Spring Break: March 10, Last Class: April 28

Elkin JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians)
with Meredith Wilkerson
Open to all 4th-8th graders (at any school), the Junior Appalachian Musicians program provides instruction in traditional mountain music. Elkin JAM participants may choose between banjo, guitar, fiddle, or mandolin. Instruments provided as needed.
First class: Wednesday, February 5th
Spring Break: Wednesday, March 12th
Last Class: Wednesday, April 30th
